The 5600-6600 Pilothouse Trawler range is a single or twin engine vessel set up for long range cruising. It shares the same 17'4" wide stable hull as the larger engine contemporary styled cousins but the smaller engines allow for greater tankage to get the vessel comfortably to Fiji or beyond at 7-8 knots on a single tank of diesel. Sizes can be adjusted from 56, 59, 62 or 66 feet via the flexible hull mould which can be set at various lengths. This allows the salon and pilothouse to expand. Also extended swim platforms are useful for water-sports people.

Stabilisers are optional. The beamy hull is very stable on it's own but for extra comfort stabilisers can be fitted.
Fishermen for decades built boats with round bilges for ultimate load carrying of large catches but suffered stability. This tradition has carried over to many pleasure trawlers and stabilisers or Flopper stoppers become essential. Nowadays, many fishing boats are hard chined express trawlers on semi-displacement hulls. They get out to the fishing grounds faster, have greater stability and comfort for working in a sea-way and still have sufficient displacement to come home slow with a large catch.

Pleasure trawlers are also becoming more hard chined to eliminate troublesome stabilisers and instead have built in stability. As the pleasure trawler has less need for huge payload, the semi-displacement hull we use allows long passage-making yet good built in stability. Propellers can be protected and be a single main with a get home wing engine or twin engines also with protected propellers. The get-home driveline can be powered by a larger genset via belt, electric or hydraulic drive or a completely separate wing engine can be used. The wing engine drive-line commonly uses a folding propeller to reduce drag.

Offshore passage-making systems are selected for reliability and redundancy. Larger battery banks, water-maker, waste treatment, larger tender arrangement and athwartships master are commonly selected options for long range live-aboard cruising.
