From Superyachts to Powercats
This page tells you of our history prior to re-branding as Adventure
Bay Motoryachts in 2005. WinterYachts was the trade name we used
to develop several Charter Superyachts owned by Winters' Investments.
|
The 86ft Powercat Pacific Harmony was styled and conceived
by us as a luxury charter and blue water explorer. It was
built by a New Zealand yard in 2001-2002 and began chartering
in 2003 for the America's Cup in New Zealand. It was motored
9000 miles to Florida and sold in 2005.
Since then feedback from the US boat shows has shown that
Asia is becoming a world leader in yacht construction. Taiwan
has overtaken New Zealand in Superyacht construction and
China impresses the world in its rapid growth and talent
in making everything, pleasure-boats included.
|
|
We formed Adventure Bay Motoryachts with one goal. To offer
the best hand crafted traditional quality motorboats at the best
value in the market. This would include mono-hulls and Powercats.
To do so we needed the low labour cost of China but the decades
of experience of Taiwan and New Zealand. We selected the best
New Zealand designers and surveyors to oversee production and
chose the Taiwanese owned and managed Activa Marine in Shanghai China to build for us.
Superyacht History

The 105 ft luxury Feadship style monohull Pacific Mermaid
was conceived and built from 1990-1995 in the days we had
our own factory. It began Chartering in 1996 and is still
in Winters' Investments ownership today. Pacific Mermaid
was New Zealand's largest Superyacht for hire and was regularly
used by visiting celebrities, Royalty and foreign and local
heads of government. Winter's Investments Ltd was established
in 1962 and has been involved in boat-building, refits and
corporate luxury charter operations since the early 1980's.
Furniture making and importing is the background of the
company since 1958 and they have been keen boaters since
the early 1970's and have spent many blue-water miles around
the Pacific in charter with their vessels.

These projects have given invaluable experience and feedback
on the business of entertaining afloat and blue water cruising.
Since 1996 projects have been on a sub contract basis to specialists
with Winter Yachts project managing them hands on.
The 42-foot charter catamaran Aqua Vitae was the company's entry
into multihull construction and many catamaran concepts have been
researched and tested since then. The 85 ft Mares range of Powercats
were part of the company's early exposure to Cats by supplying
parts of their interior fit out. Other larger vessels have recently
included:
Itasca - 175 ft expedition style luxury vessel part interior refit.
Snapshot - 95 ft Frers luxury sloop full interior.
Seljm - 115 ft classic luxury yacht part interior refit.
Fadlallah, 128ft Doug Sharp motoryacht interior.
Sariyah, 140ft Sparkman & Stephens Ketch interior.
A Khaliq, 82 ft Warwick motoryacht interior.
Pacific Mermaid, 105ft steel displacement luxury Motoryacht, full
construction, interior and charter operation.
The Future Is Powercats
Catamaran and Wavepiercer designs have long been the choice for
innovative people "looking for more" from their boats. More stability,
more room, more speed and more fuel economy. The evolution of
the Power-catamaran has been rapid over the past 10 years, to
a point where they are seen as the future new trend in motoryachts.
This has already been seen by their take over in the commercial
passenger ferry market.
Pacific Harmony was conceived as a long range global luxury cruiser
with 3000 mile range at 8-10kts and over 1000 mile range at 20
kts on a mere 3500 gallons of fuel. She features 20-30% more room
than monohulls of her length, 30-40 % less fuel consumption and
the bonus of extra stability than a monohull underway or at rest
without the need for stabilisers. Being an 86 foot, long range,
high speed cruiser with the volume of a 100 footer and then the
economy of a 60 footer makes a very special boat.
